June is Almost Over

June--the wedding month, the first 'summer' month. It's a lovely month in most cases. This year for me it was the CRAZY month.
Crazy with activities, commitments and fog-inducing emotional issues. But today is the 28th. With 30 days in the month that only leaves 2 days.
Like everything will go back to normal because the calendar says it's July.
Well, one can hope, can't they?
Yes, June was all my own doing.
Yes, I said I'd judge this, teach that, take this class, prepare this workshop. Yes, I said those things. And I did those things. But I forgot--Do I have a husband? Children? Grandchildren?
Ah--I think I do.
I better go make sure they still know who I am and that I do LOVE them very, very much!!
Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed?
I think I'll have a ceremonial changing of the calendar when I flip the page from June to July. Sound like a good idea?
So, my hubby and I took the grandkids to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway this past Saturday. We bought tickets in advance and had the day planned. Friday night I tried to be proactive. I tried to charge the camera battery. I mean, what good grandparent doesn't take pictures on a day trip with the grandkids? Especially when you've going to a very cool and scenic place.
I looked at looked and couldn't find the charger. My hubby got home around midnight from an out of town business trip and I told him about not being able to find the charger.

Hubby: "When did you use it last?"
Me: "Can't remember."
Hubby: "You really need to have a spot where you put all those types of things."
Me: "I do have a spot. It wasn't there."
Hubby--giving me a funny look: "Well, then you must not have put it back. I think I remember you calling me recently and asking me to bring it to you, but then you said you already had it."
Me: "Hmm."

I mean really--what do you say to that? It's Sunday night and I still can't find it. I would show you the picture we had to pay $10 bucks for because we were at the mercy of the Scenic Railway people--you know, because we didn't TAKE our camera, but I gave it to the grandkids to take home. A souvenir.

But can you picture this?
The train.

these two cute kids

and me and my hubby on the train.

I really need to work at being a better grandma!

Fun Stuff About Love!

I LOVE watching the Bachelor and Bachelorette shows. Because I love love and love romance and love watching people interact and gettng to know each other, the show holds my interests.
Rarely do the matches that result from the show come to anything more than a few months of dating, but lately there's been a shake-up in the reality Bachelor and Bachelorette world.
It looks like both couples from last year are engaged.

Here is last year's Bachlorette, Jillian and her guy Ed. Jillian moved to Chicago where Ed lives.

And here are Jason and Molly. I won't go into their story. You can read all about it on the internet, but it was crazy. They are now engaged. Yeah!!

I know two engagements doesn't mean there will even be one wedding, but I have a feeling there will be. We'll just have to wait and see!

Happy Love!

Abundant Friday

Friday's verse:

"We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death."

What the pastor was talking about last Sunday was choosing life instead of death. Right here and now. So these verses were to help us live each day abundantly---live in Him--through him. I hope they meant something to those who read them.

Thursday's Abundance

1Timothy 6:17-19
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good words, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life."

It takes me awhile to really read and understand scripture. Sometimes it seems like the words are obvious, but there is really more meaning to them than what we first think or see.

Living Abundantly Day Two.....

The verses for day two are kind of long. We had really intersting discussions on these verses in church. A couple of different groups of people came up with something similar in talking about them.

Colossians 1:9-10 "For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;"

We talked about how the journey is always continuing. That as you increase your knowledge of God, you grow and this is such a continuous aspect of the walk with Christ.

Happy Birthday Melanie!!!

Living Life Abundantly This Week......

Almost a year ago my husband and I started attending a new church. I mean a brand new church. It's called The Quest and the mission/vision statement is "refusing to give up on God's dream for the world."

We (the church)are true to the vision/mission. My husband and I can't hardly put into words the difference this church has made in our lives. The best way I can describe it is like this. If you've ever thought about going on a mission trip, or doing some sort of mission work for your community...well that is this church. It's like living on some sort of a mission trip all the time. It's totally different from any church we've been to in the past. We have grown and been blessed and learned from the minute we started attending. It truly is amazing.

After the first of the year our pastor started a sermon series title "Unwritten." It's about faith and how you can't live that through somebody else. You have to experience faith and God and all that goes with it individually. No one else can have your experiences.

So this week he had us talking about 4 verses from the Bible and how living them out daily will cause you to live abundantly.

I will post these verses each day. Let me know what you think living these verses abundantly means to you. There are no right/wrong answers. I'm simply going to keep them in mind and see what happens.

The first verse is from the book of Ephesians.

Ephesians 4:1 "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." NKJV Nelson Study Bible.

Shadow

Here is a pic of our sweet dog Shadow. My hubby had Shadow before I met him. I always used to joke around and say the dog had seniority.
We had to put Shadow to sleep early last week. It was a very sad day in our house. She was over 16 years old and had a very good "doggy" life. We all miss her!!!
The kitty is walking around like "where's my buddy?"
Lenny's walking around like "where's my buddy?"
I"m walking around thinking "do I really miss the dog hair on the floor?" (She had very long hair!)
Pets are like part of the family and when they're gone it's like part of your life isn't quite the same.
For right now we're hanging out with the kitty and a couple of Macaws we are raising.
And of course we still have our blue and gold Chiquita and our lilac headed amazaon Lila. So we are not alone!! But it just isn't quite the same.

Pink and Yellow--Summer Fading Into Fall.....

Laura chose pink flowers for her wedding and Brenna chose yellow. Such fun, bright colors and I'm glad we have the photos since summer is fading into fall. I love the cool weather, the sun shining when it's not sweaty hot.
Summer 2008 will be remembered by me as the summer of weddings.
How are you going to remember the summer of 2008? Any special things happen this summer?

Starting New Things Is Never Easy

But it doesn't have to be hard, either. I have started walking. Whoo-hoo!! I know to some of you this is no big deal. Walking? you ask? Phew! I walk every day.
But I never exercise. I can't stand the thought of the word. Every year when I go for my annual doc visit he asks the dreaded question---Are you excersing?
No.
I just tell him "no, I'm not."
He doesn't say much. Some little speil about how beneficial it is, yadda, yadda, yadda. So you see, I have to start somewhere.
What about you? Do you exercise? If no, why not? If yes, please give me some encouraging words so I don't give up.

Happy Saturday!

Well August Is Almost Over......

And I haven't been very good at posting this month! I know, you don't want to hear about how life gets in the way, but trust me life gets in the way. Oh, what's so hard about sitting down and typing a few words now and then? That's what I thought. But trust me, sitting down before laying down to go to bed has been a struggle.
I've been to Florida twice (fun) and Tennessee twice (work) and am getting done with the last minute wedding details.
The good thing is I'm not stressing yet. I hope I don't. I mean, if all is well, why bother, right? I have a dress, but I"m going to look for another one. If I find one, great, if not I have one I like. Three weeks from today and it will all be over with and I'll be packing to go to Minnesota for the ACFW Conference! All the F.A.I.T.H. girls will be together. We are really excited.

You know, life is full of all kinds of things. Good, bad, exciting, boring. We just need to go with the flow, ride out the storms, swing from the rainbows, and breathe in all that is good. Take each day and live in all the moments.

Left Behind

For the last month and probably the next two months I've been leaving my home on Tuesday mornings to head up to Oak Ridge Tennessee where I've been working. I'm not a traveling type of person normally when it comes to work, so I'm a little out of my element in all this. I love to travel, but with my hubby and or family. Not myself. My boss is there with me sometimes, but sometimes she's not.
I take my computer and try to make the best of the evenings and early mornings by writing, catching up on email and the blogs I like to viist.
Well, this week I get to the hotel Tuesday night and pull out my computer. I search the bag for the charger and realize I had left it in Atlanta. So I have less than 45 minutes of time on the computer for the whole week.
Bummer.
To top it off I have a spider bite and my leg is the size of a grapefruit. Very uncomfortable. I will not go into the details as they aren't very pretty.
So my week was spent watching a lot of reality TV. There are reality shows for everything. I mean everything.
I had no idea.
So from now on you bet I'm going to double check that bag to make sure I have all I need before I go.
What about you? Have you ever left something behind?

Alaska-Day 4-Hubbard Glacier

It's hard to imagine something this massive and beautiful.

These pictures don't do this glacier justice, but trust me when I say it was an amazing experience seeing this creation of God.

The picture with the people standing on the deck of the boat gives some semblence as to how massive this glacier is. We got really close to the glacier and the captain of the ship turned the ship in a circle for about 45 minutes so no matter where you were on the boat you got a really good view of the glacier.
We had absolutely beautiful weather. The sun was out. The temps were a little chilly, but nothing a sweatshirt and a hat oculdn't handle.
This was truly a dream vacation for me. Between the friends, family, scenery, weather and all other aspects I don't see how it could have been better.
Now my dream is to go back to Alaska. But not on a cruise. I couldn't nor do I want to replicate that dream, but I want to go landing. Rather seeing Alaska by land.
I'm looking at 2010 for another dream to come true, but we'll see.

PS..I'm checking the Juneau website every week to see what's going on and how expensive transportation is to the city.

Where is your dream vacation located? In the US? Over seas somewhere?

New Month, New Pics, New News!!

Well it's July. A new month!

I have news and pics. News first. My manuscript, This Crazy Love I Never Expected is a finalist in the TARA Writing Contest.

And now for some vacation details and and pics!
We went on a cruise to Alaska. We started in Seattle for a great visit with my brother, then made our way via Amtrak to Vancouver where we boarded a boat with 10 friends and family. We had fun! Alaska is THE PLACE TO BE in the summer. Fabulous weather.

Here is my hubby and his brother and his wife. We have just arrived on the boat and are waiting to set sail.

A view from the boat leaving Vancouver. Beautiful scenery.

Will post more later.

Today is our anniversary! Happy eight years.

I'm so blessed to have my very own hero.

Love you, Lenny!!

It's Only April 5th

I had a migraine on Tuesday and a grandson born on Wednesday---so I spent Thursday and Friday doing all I didn't do Tuesday and Wednesday.
How's that for excuses?

Can you claim you didn't blog because you had a migraine and a grandson being born?

Didn't think so!

But really----Tyler was born Wednesday morning. Mom and son are doing well. Everybody's home and settling in. We are going visiting today. Can't wait to hold little Tyler again.

You are familiar with the saying "time flies." And when you are young, you think everything moves so slow. I literally need a few more hours in the day to keep up with what's going on. But I know that's not going to happen. (There will always only be 24 hours in a day)

So enjoy your 24 hours---See you next week!

Bunches of stuff

Okay, as my cuz pointed out in the comment section I have not been posting regularly this week. It's true--she's right. But--well there are no excuses are there? I've had time to do other things, so I could have jotted something down here and there--one day or another, huh?

I'll preview a little of my post tomorrow. Kristy Dykes husband is asking for world-wide prayer for her at 3:30 Monday afternoon as she goes for her first radiation treatment. I'll have that post tomorrow.

On a lighter note, we have our granddaughter with us today and tomorrow. Such a joy to have around. She's talking up a storm and making us laugh really hard with her cute sayings. She turned two in August and seems to be a very bright, fun, happy little girl.

My cuz's niece (which I'm not sure what Marisa is to me? My second niece once removed twice over and three times under?) Marisa had a baby girl last week. From reading the paragraph above Marisa and Jim are in for a lot of fun in the next couple of years. I know she will be a joy. Here is a very cute picture of Kenzi.

What a better way to end a post than with a cute picture!

Seasons

Halloween is over and the holidays are coming. Soon it will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas. It's finally getting cooler here in Georgia. I have yet to wear a coat, but I think we're almost there. The leaves are falling and turning colors.
It's fall in Georgia a month and a half before it officially becomes winter.
Ah, the joys of living in the south.
What part of the country do you live in and have you seen the signs of the seasons changing?
